Born in: Bridgeport, Ohio
Resided in: Bryan, Texas

Paul Kolasci, Jr., walked into the waiting arms of his Lord on June 23, 2020 at home in Bryan, Texas, where he resided since 1989. He was born on September 24, 1924, in Belmont County, Bridgeport, Ohio, to Paul Kolasci and Ann Ragus Kolasci. He married Thelma Breaux in Orange, Texas on October 6, 1946.

He leaves behind two children: son, Paul Kolasci, III; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Calvin S. Wade; grandson Calvin Paul “CP” Wade and wife Brittney; two sisters and their husbands, Naomi and Willard Maxwell, and Brenda and Carl Pettit; brother-in-law, Moody and wife Judy Breaux. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister, Virginia Parchmain, and his loving wife of 64 years, Thelma, who passed away on April 29, 2011. Two additional family members, his granddogs, DaisyMae and HarleyBow, brought him years of joy and wonderful companionship.

Paul attended Parochial School at Wolfhurst, Ohio and High School in Bridgeport, Ohio.  He enlisted in the Navy in 1942, as an Apprentice Seaman. His military service included World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Sea Duty assignments included Squadron VB-1, USS Matagorda; USS Monitor, USS Markab, USS Dixie, USS Prairie, USS Bryce Canyon, Staff 16th Fleet, USS Vermillion, USS Adirondack, USS Amphion, USS Piedmont, Staff Cruiser Destroyer Force Pacific Fleet, and the USS Newport News CA148, where he retired. Shore Duty assignments were Orange, TX, Portsmouth, VA, and Beeville, TX.

In 1946, Paul attended Stenographers School in San Diego, CA, and in 1947 The Naval Justice School in Port Hueneme, CA.  As a result, he was assigned as a Court Stenographer on General Courts-Martial, Summary Courts-Martial, and the Investigative Service. He retired in 1968, as Senior Chief Petty Officer, and then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Beeville, TX, then back to NAS Chase Field in Beeville, holding the position as Military Support Division Officer, retiring in 1986, after 18 years of service.

Paul loved the honor of serving his country.  He enjoyed many years of golfing, fishing, and sending many greeting cards out to those in his life.  He never met a stranger; he always talked to people and tried to make someone laugh or smile.  He was a wonderful provider, and the rock of his family.  Those who “truly knew him” would understand that he was a “Real Character.

  13. Patti and Paul,
So sorry for the loss of your dad. He left me many memories of our times together going back to Beeville and visiting him a few times in Bryan. Your dad was one of a kind and never a loss for words. No one can take his place. May he rest in peace.

  14. Patti, Paul, CP, and Brittney,
I am so sorry for the loss of your dad and grandfather. I have many memories of our times together in Beeville and Bryan. Your dad was one of a kind and never a loss for words. He always made me laugh. Your dad can never be replaced. May he rest in peace.

  15. I met Patti Wade about two and a half years ago and I count her as a sister. The dedication, love, and compassion she has for her father showed through her every action and I knew that he must be a great man. I am honored to know this family and they are in my thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of their Dad and Granddad. Patti, I love you and I am here for you.

  16. While sad to learn of the passing of such a marvelous man, there is no doubt Heaven is rejoicing as family and friends who preceded him welcome him to his new location. No doubt he will watch over all of us from above — and probably figure out a way to send cards as was his custom. Although he leaves behind such an impressive life that clearly showed a devotion to family, friends and country, my favorite memory was sitting next to him in Patti and Calvin’s backyard during a birthday celebration — listening to his ongoing commentary and observations throughout the evening. Couldn’t help but laugh when he shared his only concern was whether or not his golf game would be rained out the next day, but there was always Shipley’s if it was. The proverbial glass was never half full when he was around — it was overflowing and we are all better to have known him.

  17. Patti, Paul and CP, Paul was a great friend and shipmate, he got me interested in playing golf when I worked for him in Beeville and we played on base several times. I know he’s in heaven teaching Peter, Paul and John the game he loved to play. I first met Patti at a Beeville Bees game, miss those times in my life. Paul and I kept in touch over the years and when I retired I went on a road trip in early 2016 and stopped by and visited Paul and Patti and had a wonderful time reminiscing memories. I will miss him. My love and prayers.
