Jean, 82, of College Station, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 19, 2021. Service will be held at Calloway-Jones Funeral Home in College Station on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 10 am. An internment will follow at a later date at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.

Jean was born May 3, 1939 in Ingatestone, Essex County, England, to William and Annie Bland. She was the second youngest of five girls. Jean grew up in a very loving household and was very close to all her sisters. She was very proud of her English heritage and upbringing.

In 1957, she met the love of her life, Larry Smith, at a dance at Weathersfield AFB, England and on November 1, 1958, they married. Larry’s air force commitment required them to move several more times before settling in the Dallas, TX area to continue raising their 3 children.

Jean’s favorite holiday was Christmas. Her love of gift giving was evident in how early she would shop for cards and gifts before any special occasion from anniversary to birthday to holiday.

Jean was especially social. She had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh and was often the life of the party. She loved to spend time with her British club.

Jean will forever be remembered for how deeply she loved her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted housewife who always put her family first. There was never a time when her children went without. Her fur babies were equally important and loved, never going without a Christmas stocking of goodies and a birthday bone.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband Larry Smith of 59 years, birth parents ,Charles and Annie Bland, sisters, Peggy Barber, Wendy Phillips, and Shirley Piper.

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Hayworth, and son in law, Stan Hayworth; daughter, Melissa Swarbrick, and son in law, Brian Swarbrick; her son, Robert Smith, and daughter in law, Kimberly Smith; her grandchildren, Erin Smith and Emily Smith; and her sister, Vivienne Taylor.
