Etta Lee Cardenas passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the age of 91. Etta was a native of Houston born to Rogers Alphonso and Hermine Alma (Lange) Tanner. She was a graduate of Reagan High School and a longtime member of St. John United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Etta enjoyed homemaking (especially cooking), gardening, church fellowship, and taking care of friends and family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, especially known for her infectious smile and loving heart for God.
Etta is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Leslie Frank Cardenas, Jr; daughter Lori Cardenas; sister, Pearl Reid; and brother Virgil Tanner.
She is survived by her daughter Lynnette Wilson & husband Jody of Ridgecrest, CA; son Les Cardenas & wife Jeanne of College Station, TX; two grandsons Tanner and Paul Cardenas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5 pm, Friday, November 5, 2021, at Callaway Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, TX. Etta’s Victory Celebration will be held at 10 am, Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1200 Foxfire Dr, College Station, TX. Interment will be at 11 am, Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr., in Houston. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers.
Honoring the life of Etta Lee as Pallbearers are Jody Wilson, Steve Knott, Tom Mataway, Paul Cardenas, Paul Lochte, and Zac Polk.
The family is grateful for the caregivers at The Isle at Watercrest, Bryan, and Traditions Hospice.

I was sadden to hear of the loss of Etta.
I remember meeting her in 1998. She was in my Bible study group at Advent Lutheran Church. So much fun and always a smile.
My God continue to be with the family and friends during this difficult time.
