Our energetic, bubbly, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, and hairstylist, Julia Ortega, 66, of Bryan, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2019, in Bryan. A visitation will begin at 9 am, with the (ROSARY RECITED AT 10AM) FOLLOWED BY THE funeral Mass, both in St. Mary’s Catholic Center, Friday, June 28, 2019. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Msgr. John A. McCaffrey will officiate services. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers.

Julia, a Bryan native, had every reason to remain in Bryan as a life long resident, was born on March 4, 1953, to Marcos and Susie Ortega. She was a great mother providing the best life she could for her children and later her beloved grandchildren. She was a kind spirit to every one she met, full of unconditional love. Julia will be remembered for her continual smile she had for all. Julia was proud to be a Fighting Stephen F. Austin High School Bronco and a member of the final Senior Class of 1972 to graduate from SFA. Her passion in becoming a hairstylist began here at SFA in Cosmetology. Julia was employed with Vogue Hairstyling Salon and was a stylist for thirty years. Her work family, Julia always held close to her heart. Those who knew her will miss Julia’s love of all. Julia was Catholic in faith and attended Mass regularly at the catholic churches in Bryan and College Station.

Her daughter Laura Melendez and her parents all precede her in death.

Julia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert and Patricia Ortega; her most beloved three grandchildren, Joaquin, Isaiah, and Abigail; her brother Joseph Ortega and wife Irma; her sister Rose Mary Chavez and husband David; her nieces and nephews Jessica Ortega, Krystal and husband Omar Gamboa, Kris Ortega, Selena and Joseph Lugo; other relatives and close friends.

Julia’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staffs of Legacy Rehab and Nursing, CHI – St. Joseph Regional Health Care CCU, and doctors who provided such care for Julia.
