Jose Cruz Briones

December 9, 1941 – September 22, 2019

Our beloved Joe Briones, 77, resident of Bryan, Texas, was called to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 22, 2019. A visitation will begin at 1pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 3pm, on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center.

Joe was born to Jose and Rosa Cruz Briones in Austin, Texas. An independent man, he was very much a self-starter in many areas of his life. He married his childhood sweetheart, Janie Arrellano Briones and together they created a house into a home. Joe was determined to be the provider for his young family. He was a model of hard work and diligence. His children mentioned “we are all good hard-working people because of our Dad”. If dad gave you a nickname it was a sign of endearment. Joe was willing to be first in helping others regardless of what had to be done. He was truly a wise man and a great listener to his family and friends, offering them words of encouragement through tough times. We will miss our green thumb of the family and incredible gardens he grew. Mrs. Briones mentioned that Joe was a great man, a good husband, a loving father, and one who adored all his grandchildren. Joe really loved God; he embraced the servant’s heart serving throughout the church wherever he was needed as a band member, gardener, maintenance and usher. Our dad took pride in caring for the House of the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Janie Briones; his children Joe A. Briones, III, Roy Briones and his wife, Cecilia; Carlos Briones and his wife, Amy; Charlie Briones and his wife, Michelle; Anthony Galves, Teresa A. Gutierrez, Esther Trujillo and her husband, Tyron; and Sylvia B. Estrada and her husband Danny; his brother Alford Briones; his sisters, Connie Sorrano, and Susie Galvez; his thirty-seven grandchildren, seventy-eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
