Akbar Langari, 79, formerly of Bryan, passed away Tuesday October 19, 2010, in Mission Viejo, California following a brief illness. He was born April 3 1931 in Kerman, Iran. Mr. Langari was a colonel in the Iranian Imperial Ground Forces (IIGF, Iranian army prior to the 1979 Islamic Revolution) and retired from service in February 1979. He served as a faculty member in the IIGF College of Staff and Command in the 1970s. In 1964 Mr. Langari, then an IIGF captain trained with the US Army Special Forces in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Mr. Langari graduated with the highest honors from both the IIGF military academy (in 1955) and the IIGF College of Staff and Command (in 1971.)
Survivors include his wife Taj, his sons, Reza of Bryan, Alireza of Ontario, Canada, Abdolreza of Aliso Viejo, California and Ladan of Tehran, Iran as well as three grandchildren.
Private funeral service will be held on Friday November 5, 2010.
