Family-Owned Businesses Define Vitality in Bryan-College Station

When The Eagle informed me that we’d again been voted into the Top 3 Best Funeral Homes level in their Reader’s Choice Award contest, I reflected on how grateful I am we founded our business here in Bryan almost 65 years ago.

Even though we’re up against competition from two giant corporate funeral homes and four other funeral homes for the Top Spot, as a local business owner, I’m very grateful you voted for us and that we’re in the Top 3 again this year. We don’t take it for granted. It’s especially rewarding to live and work in our community. It’s even more special when you share your voice and show us you approve of how we conduct our business here.

I must confess that lately, I’d been shocked at one corporate competitor whose ads tried to diminish our new building inside the space of their ads. Some corporations don’t really understand the ways of the town where they have locations, I think.

We also remember that all businesses who have out-of-town/corporate ownership also employ many good local people. Bryan-College Station has loyal employees in every single business. No one wins and builds up their business reputation by trying to tear someone else down. And, we have to remember that we are all lucky to have such good teams.

I remembered something my grandfather had taught me before his passing. Corporations may come and go in Bryan-College Station every day, but family is forever.  Today, as the fifth-generation leader of the Callaway-Jones family, my father trained me to be a man of my word. I tell the truth, treat customers fairly, and remember that each family is my priority. My family name is judged by every decision I make. Our business employs 20 local community members who live and spend here. The community that I live in is first, last, and always the judge of my (our) reputation.

At the end of every day, it’s our family’s name on the line for Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers. I’m proud of the relationship of trust that our family has built with yours, our clients and families, over these past 65 years here.

A final reminder–You can vote every day from now through May 20. Here’s the link: http://theeagle.secondstreetapp.com/The-Eagles-Readers-Choice-Awards-2019/

Thank you for voting us into the Top 3. So, as you consider who to vote for and choose in Best Funeral Home, as in The Eagle’s supplement, thank you for continuing to validate your confidence and trust in us. Thank you for shopping local!
