William John Sturm
November 13, 1931 – November 5, 2019

William Sturm, 87, of Bryan, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, in Bryan. A visitation will be begin at 9 am, followed by his funeral service with military honors at 10 am, on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center. The family invites you to join them for a light reception following the service. Interment will be in Old Hardin Cemetery in Kountze, Texas at 4:30pm. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

William (Bill) was born to Ernest and Meta Dieringer Sturm, in Cuero, Texas, on November 13, 1931. Bill was a loving family man, a devoted worker in his local church, and a true Texan. During his lifetime, Bill enjoyed several different careers. He was a farmer on the family land in Cuero, TX as a young man. He worked for the railroad for a while, and worked in the oil and gas industry as a roughneck. His hard work earned him advancement and enabled him to obtain employment with Texaco, Inc. in 1966. With Texaco he traveled the world drilling oil and gas wells. as a drilling superintendent. He also served his country from 1954-1962 in the US Army and the Army Reserves. After retiring, with Texaco in 1992, Bill farmed again, raising exotic birds.

Bill met the love of his life, Nora Ann Brown in Kountze, TX while drilling wells there and they married in 1953. Their love and home has been a true example of what marriage and family was intended to be.

As a godly man, Bill spent most of his long retirement years working and serving others as a deacon in his local church, The Little Rock Assembly of God. He adored his family and invested much in the lives of others, especially his grandchildren, son, nieces and nephews.

Bill was an avid conversationalist. He always had a good story to tell about something he had seen or done while traveling the world. He possessed a quick wit, complimented others often and sincerely, and enjoyed telling others about what the grandkids were up to. He would often find a way to praise his LORD and Savior in the course of conversation. He never met a stranger, had a genuine love for people, and possessed an open generous heart. He will be greatly missed!

His children; William John Sturm Jr., and Yolanda Katherine Sturm; parents, Ernest and Meta Sturm; his siblings, James Sturm and Mary Kunschik; all precede him in death.

William is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Nora Ann Brown Sturm of Bryan; his son, John and wife Julie Sturm of Bryan; his brothers Mike and wife Claudia, of Yorktown, Gene and wife Pat Sturm, of Rancho Cordova, CA; his sisters, Anne Nesloney, of Sugar Land, Emily Todd, of Carrollton, Norma Zengerle, Margie and husband Tommy Fraiser, all of Cuero, TX; grandchildren, Michael Brandon Sturm and wife Lauren, of Katy, Aftin Blair Alvarado and husband Matt of Bryan; his great grandchildren Seth Michael, and Shane Joseph Sturm, Jacqueline Kaye, and Jarah Ellayne Alvarado; his extended family and close friends.

Honoring William Sturm as pallbearers are Brandon Sturm, Seth Sturm, Shane Sturm, Matt Alvarado, Gerald Zengerle, and Glenn Zengerle.
