Dr. Thomas Foyt Jr.

On October 6, Thomas E. “Tommy” Foyt, Jr. passed away, losing his battle with cancer.  Tommy was a resident of Taylor, Texas and maintained a country home in Mumford in the Brazos valley near Bryan.

Tommy was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of the DKE fraternity.  After graduating from the University of Texas, Tommy enrolled in the University of Texas Dental School in Houston where he obtained his D.D.S. After practicing general dentistry in Houston, Tommy moved to Taylor, Texas where he established a successful dental practice for over 30 years.

Tommy had a life long love for fishing, hunting and outdoor life.  For many years, Tommy invited friends and family down to the Mumford farm for some exceptional dove hunts and fishing on the family owned stretch of the Brazos river where his uncle Dick maintained a rustic fishing camp.

During the last few years, Tommy and his wife, Audette, restored the old Foyt farmhouse where Tommy grew up and used it as a weekend home and hunting camp.  During his last days, Tommy chose to stay in Mumford at the old family farm.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Audette Corpora Foyt, his son Joseph Thomas Foyt, daughters, Aissa Foyt and Elizabeth Tellier, a new grandson, Logan Tellier, and his sister, Barbara Collier Foyt.  Tommy was a unique individual who was always a congenial host in Mumford and fine friend.  He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Condolences

  1. My sympathy to the family for Tommy’s passing. Much too early. Tommy and I were good friends during our school days in Hearne and spent many hours hunting in the bottom. Tommy, may you have a peaceful journey.

  2. Fast Tommy was a special person, and I cherish the memories of running with him. I do not know how we avoided prison sentences and/or death; but then, there were a lot of things we did which I could not remember the next day. He will be missed. Please let me know if there will be a memorial service.

  3. Audette and Joe, My prayers are with you and your family. I completely understand your pain. He is healed and it walking with His Father…

  8. Audette and Joseph,
There are no words that will heal your pain or reduce your loss. If there were, I would definitely be saying them. Know that you are not alone. When you are ready to reach out, I hope you know that I am here. It has been my experience that God is with you in a powerful way during the most difficult times. May you feel His presences as you walk through this valley. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
    Love,
    Bernadette

  11. Audette – I am so sorry to read about Tommy’s passing in the Taylor paper ……. My heart and prayers are with you and Joseph !! I am so glad you had some very wonderful and memorable trips together in the last few years …… With sincere sympathy, Brenda

  12. Audette and JT, Melvin and I are so sorry for your loss. We were talking and remembering some of the good times with Tommy. The one that stuck out the most in our minds is Cara’s wedding. He was the life of the party. Laughing and dancing with everyone, I don’t think he sat down the whole time we were there! These are the times that will bring you comfort in the days to come. May he rest in peace.

  13. I was so sorry to read that Tommy had passed away. He was such a great man and dentist. He always took great care of our family. I remember him being the chess coach at St. Paul school for the kids. They really enjoyed it. May our Lord and Savior bless you and your family during this hard time. Love Donna

  14. Precious Audette , Joseph, thinking of you. How faithful you were to love and care for Tommy so special during his terminal illness. For us what a gift to have known him some.

As you come to our thoughts, we will lift you in prayer.

Was there a favorite cause Tommy would want support given to in his memory?

    Our love,

  15. To the family of Tommy Foyt,
Please accept our deepest sympathy and condolences upon the loss of your dear husbabd, father, grandfather. Sid Kaplan & I have been with Tommy several times many years ago. Sid and Tommy served as United States Senate Pages at the US Capitol in Washington, DC for about 2 1/2 to 3 yrs when they we r in high school, and shared many fond memories. It was a once-ina-lifetime experience that very few people were fortunate to have been selected to serve our US Senate.
Tommy was a caring, kind person who brought laughter into the friendship….a wonderful young man.
His passing brings sorrow to so many people, and he will be missed.
Our hearts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
    All our best,
Beth, Sid, Jennifer, Jason, & Michael Kaplan
