Sylvia Baker, 77, of Robertson County, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, in her home. A visitation was held from 6 to 8 pm, on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Centers. Her Funeral Service will be at 1:30 pm, Sunday, January 20, 2019, at the funeral center. Interment will follow in Rest Ever Memorial Park. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.
Sylvia was born to Everett Campbell and Gussie Pace Campbell, on February 1, 1941, in Marion, Louisiana. Sylvia married Billy Floyd Baker in 1959 and followed him across the nation and back again in their endeavors. Sylvia was the office manager for their trucking company. She loved watching Billy ride their Tennessee Walkers. Her most cherished times were when she had her family, and the many friends she considered family, all together at one time.
Her parents, three sisters and two brothers precede her in death.
Her husband, Billy Floyd Baker; her son Floyd Baker and wife Marsha; her daughter Lorrelle Gibson and husband Glenn; her brothers G. W. Campbell and James Campbell; her four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren survive her.

Dear Baker clan,
I am so sorry about Sylvia’s passing. She was one of the most courageous women I have ever known. Her resilience in the face of so many serious illnesses was amazing and inspiring. It was always so wonderful to see her at the horse shows, visiting with the “horse show family,” and cheering for Billy Baker, especially in his speed racking classes, many times just having recovered from some hospital bout. Her support, advice, and friendship have meant so much to me over the years since we first met, over a decade ago. She lent me “the coat off her back” (plus a vest) to ride in my first walking horse show; she introduced me to the many wonderful people on the show circuit; she and Billy were so encouraging as I learned the ropes of a new riding discipline; and of course, her own skill as a horse handler I still appreciate and give thanks for every day as I interact with Texas News, her totally non-defensive, positive, clever people-loving creation.
She was so devoted to you all, her family. Husband, son, daughter, inlaws, sisters, grandchildren — she was quick to share happy news about all of you, and valued the time you spent together so much.
Please know that you are not alone in your grief. She will be sorely missed by many others whom her life has touched.

Mr. Billy, Floyd and Lorelle, my heart is breaking for the loss of such a wonderful Grand Lady. It has been a pleasure to know her and y’all for the last 38 years, I can still remember when Mr. Ed Smith first introduced us at the Mack house in Beaumont. That was the beginning of our family friendship, she was a great friend through the years, and will be missed.

We were so sad to hear the news of Sylvia’s passing. Both of you took us under your wings at the horseshows, and we are so grateful. Laurine did say it best. Sylvia was the sweetest, kindest soul, offering wisdom and encouragement, and always making us feel like family. She will be greatly missed. Know you are in our prayers, and God Bless.
