Sydney Arlene Powell

Sydney Arlene Powell
November 23, 1941- October 15, 2015

Sydney Powell, 73, of College Station departed from this life on Thursday, October 15, 2015 in College Station. Her family will receive guests for visitation from 12:30pm until the time of service at 1:30 on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Three Angels Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1350 Earl Rudder Freeway South, College Station. Interment will be in College Station Cemetery. Life Tribute Ceremony is in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory.

Sydney was born on November 23, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Henry Folson and Julia Mae Williams Folson. She graduated from Albert Einstein School of Nursing and worked as a hospital nurse and then at Victory Lake Nursing Home for over thirty-five years.

Life was simple but good for Sydney and her needs were few. She was a member of the Three Angels Seventh Day Adventist Church and enjoyed fellowship with her church members. She was grateful for her devoted family, friends, and Home and Garden Network TV. Sydney was a talent in the kitchen but best known for baking her famous dinner rolls. An avid Deaconess, she cared for others and always took a seat in the front row at church. She kept her mind active with daily bible readings, enjoyed her visits with family and friends.

Sydney met the love of her life, the late Coleman Powell, through Calvin Powell, his brother, who set them up through a church conference during college. After sharing many delightful years together, they grew their family by having three children. The births of Sharon, Heaven, and Lloyd were the best days of her life.

Her legacy will be cherished by her three children Sharon Powell, Heaven “Sundra” Powell Boyd and husband Frank, Lloyd Powell and wife Sandra; grandchildren, Chelsea, Ashleigh, Joseph, Javier and Sofia; and other close family members.
