Shirley Newman

Shirley Ann Newman, the light of our family, went to be with our Lord on March 8, 2018. A time of visitation is set for 6 to 8 pm Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, 3001 S College Ave in Bryan, Texas. A graveside service is set for 2pm Sunday March 11 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood, Texas.

She was born in Michigan on December 14, 1946 to James Goetz and Memorie Durelle Gaskill Cutrell.
El Paso and Toya, Texas is where she spent most of her childhood and considered Toya her home. Her family was transferred to Palestine, Texas during her teens. There she graduated from Westwood High School in 1965. She enjoyed being a cheerleader for the Panthers and proudly showed her megaphone when given the chance. After high school, Shirley decided to study nursing and chose to pursue a degree in this field. She became a surgical nurse at Palestine Memorial Hospital. She loved this profession and was proud to assist in all surgeries. Later, she became a school nurse for Neches and Slocum ISDs. She made livelong friends with both educators and students who adored her. Mom loved to fish, hunt and occasionally spend some time at the casinos. She always loved adventure.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Timothy; her parents, James Goetz and Durelle Gaskill Cutrell.

She is survived by her children, son Donnie Foster and wife Carla; daughter Kimberly Foster Rodgers and husband Lesley; brothers Darrell and wife Ellen Fountain; Todd and wife Lisa Goetz; Don and Helen Goetz, Jennifer Warner, and Kevin Cutrell.

She and her husband, Tim, retired to Bryan-College Station in 2008 where she lived until her passing. The family would like to thank CHI St. Joseph and Hospice Brazos Valley for the loving and passionate care given to her.
