Pieter was born August 17, 1926 in Haarlem, Netherlands, to Pieter and Anna Groot. He honored his country by serving in Holland’s Army and Navy. But it was his service in the Dutch Royal Air Force that brought him to Texas and Texas A&M University. Pieter served several roles at Texas A&M, most as the Assistant Vice President and Provost helping The University become a world class educational and research organization. But also enjoyed his family through family vacations, sailing and needlepoint.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son John; and sisters Annie and Wil.
Pieter is remembered through his loving wife of 61 years, Diana; sons Roy, Richard and Paul; daughters Bernadine and Julie; sisters Rita and Cor; brother Jan; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
For those who desire, Pieter asked that memorial contributions be made to any worthy cause you feel appropriate, remembering his intent to help all who needed it.

So sorry for your loss. Peace to all of the family. You are in my thoughts.
I’m so sorry to hear of Pieter’s death. We worked together at Texas A&M for about six years or so. I credit Pieter for my having a financially secure retirement. When I became eligible for the Optional Retirement Program I asked Pieter for advice. He advised me to stay with the Teacher Retirement System and I have been so glad that I did. Pieter always knew how to make wise financial decisions. Rest in peace.
Our deepest sympathy, love, and prayers to all of your family. Pieter was such a giving man and we loved both his stories and his leadership. He was a very talented man. We were fortunate to know him. God Bless all of You!
