Wray Don Woods

November 21, 1960 — July 3, 2022

Wray Don Woods, age 61, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 3rd 2022. He left this world peacefully in his sleep at home.

Wray was born in Stillwater, Ok on November 21,1960 to the late Don Lee and Jean Marie Anderson Woods. He was the second child out of four children. His family moved to Bryan when Wray was a small boy. His neighborhood friends like the Lindsays became a second family to him. His father was a professor of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M. Wray graduated from Bryan High and attended Blinn College and Texas A&M where he studied Forestry. He left college in 1980 to work at the phone company where he met dear friends and lifelong fishing buddies. He continued to work for the phone company as a technician for 41 years.

Wray has been described as “a wonderful man of few words” who had a quick wit and discernment. He loved nature, being outdoors, hunting and fishing – especially with Andrew and Lauryn. Wray got to take one last fishing trip to the Padre Island National Seashore this month with his close friends for the 31st year in a row. His faith, family and friends were his life. He loved living in the country where he could garden, enjoy the wildlife, and watch his two big red dogs run and play. Kurten was his happy place. His love language was cooking for people which gave him a lot of satisfaction and everyone enjoyed his cooking. He was creative and loved to problem solve and fix things. Aggie sports were important to him, and he especially loved attending Aggie football games with his family throughout the years. Wray was someone you could always count on, and he never had an unkind word to say about anyone. His children were his focus, and he did all he could for his family. “I love you forever, no matter what” was what he told his family all the time. For a school project, Lauryn asked him what he wanted to be remembered for. “I want to be remembered as being a good friend and father,” was his reply. All his friends and family can attest that he did that very well.

While we are heartbroken by his unexpected passing, we rest in the fact that he is with the Lord in heaven.

Wray had a private celebration of life service with his friends and family officiated by his brother-in-law, Jerry Cox. Mary, Lauryn and Andrew are so grateful for the love and support from our family and friends during this very difficult time.

Wray is survived by his wife, Mary Kathryn Cox Woods, their daughter, Lauryn Kay Woods, their son, Andrew Wray Woods, his mom, Jean Marie Anderson Woods, his brother, Kendal and Joretta Woods, and sisters Karel Woods Goodwin and Cindy. He has a host of friends, including the Lindsays and Fishers along with many others, who are like family. He was also loved by the Cox family who will miss him greatly.
