William Klemm

William R. “Bill”  Klemm, 86, of Brazos County (Bryan), passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2021.   He was born on July 24, 1934 in South Bend, Indiana to Lincoln and Helen Delong Klemm. Dr. Klemm was a brilliant man with limitless intellectual curiosity who taught and conducted research for over fifty years.  He was raised in Florida and in Barlett, TN where he graduated as valedictorian of Bartlett High School.

He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 1958, where he met his wife Doris.

Dr. Klemm went on to join the Air Force as a Captain in 1958 and retired as a full Colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserves.  In 1964, at the age 29, Dr. Klemm received his Ph.D from Notre Dame University in Biology with a  specialty in Animal Physiology.

Upon completion of his education, Dr. Klemm joined the faculty of Iowa State University teaching pharmacology courses in the College of Veterinary Medicine. He was promoted to Assistant Professor and was awarded tenure. In 1966, Dr. Klemm left Iowa State to join the faculty of Texas A&M University.

On August 27, 1957, he married Doris Isabell Mewha, his wife of 49 years. They raised two children, Mark and Laura, and were grandparents to nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren..

At 35 years of age, Dr. Klemm was promoted to full professor in the Department of Biology teaching a range of courses from freshman biology to graduate level neuroscience. In 1980, he transferred into the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He was a widely published researcher and was a Sigma Xi Distinguished Scientist, a Distinguished Alumnus of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.  Dr. Klemm taught to a wider audience through his 20 books that cover several different topics, including: ‘Dillos,  Blame Game, Core Ideas on Neurosciences, Mental Biology, Memory Power 101, Atoms of Mind, Triune Brain, and Realville. His blog, Thank You Brain, has over 3 million reader views. Dr. Klemm developed the minds of many and shaped future generations through his passion for science and learning.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mewha Klemm. He is survived by son, Mark Klemm, his children Kelley Klemm Hermon (husband Ian Hermon), Mason Klemm, Allison Klemm, Annabel Klemm and Kelley and Ian’s children Isabel and Bennett; daughter, Laura Klemm and her children Rachael Klemm, Stephen Capps, David Capps, Michael Capps, and Benjamin Capps.

A memorial service will be held at A&M United Methodist Church, 417 University Drive, in College Station, at 10:00 am Saturday, July 10th. All are invited to come and help celebrate his life.
