William "Bill" O'Brien Mcafee

July 23, 1928 — July 14, 2023

Bill passed away in College Station, Texas, on July 14, 2023, nine days before his 95th birthday. He was born in Corsicana, Texas, to Ruby Jewell Alexander and Gerald L. McAfee on July 23, 1928, at the beginning of the “Great Depression”. In his 10th year of high school, he dropped out to help support his mother and siblings. (He obtained his GED later in life.)
Around 1949, while doing work at the Waco Boys Club, Mr. Ross Sams, Sr., recognizing Bill’s eye for design and detail, offered him a job at L. L. Sams & Sons Church Furniture Company as a junior draftsman. He advanced to be the head of the drafting and design department. After twenty-five years of designing church interiors, he transferred to the sales department, soon becoming the assistant sales manager. He retired in 1994 from the company, after forty-six years. This experience enabled him to draw up house and remodeling plans for his own homes, as well as for others.
Bill proudly announced the “luckiest day” of his life was December 23, 1961, when he met “the love of my life” ~ Barbara Parsons of Marlin, Texas, at the Westview Bowling Lanes. They were married on September 18, 1965, in the First Methodist Church of Dickinson, Texas.
After several business ventures in Waco, the couple made their home living in either Waco or Bryan, finally settling in Bryan until his passing.
He was a member of Waco No. 92 Masonic Lodge, 32 Degree Scottish Rite Masons and a Shriner.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara, family, sweet Bea Bea, and many friends.
Special thanks is given to Mz Faye and her “angels” who cared for Bill during his final days and supported Barbara during this time.
Interment will be in the Aggie Field of Honor, College Station, Texas, at a later date.
