William Ansel “Buck” Prewitt, III, passed away on October 16, 2023, at the age of 85, peacefully surrounded by his wife and youngest daughter. His funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 24th, 2pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, TX and on Wednesday, October 25th, 2pm at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple, TX with graveside directly following in Bellwood Cemetery.
Buck was born on March 9, 1938, in New Orleans, LA to Millicent Massarini Prewitt and William Ansel “W.A.” Prewitt, Jr. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University in 1960 and was a four-year Aggie Letterman (1956-1960) in golf. Buck was a well-respected business owner and advocate for civic service as he supported and served in numerous roles to better his community and state. He served on the city council of Temple and was elected Mayor for the years 1988-1990. He served regionally on many boards including Governor Clements appointed Brazos River Authority and Governor Perry’s appointed Judicial Review Committee for the State of Texas among others.
In retirement, Buck served on the Texas A&M University Letterman Board serving as President in 2017. He was inducted into the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Honor in 2014. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Linda, and his family and friends. If he wasn’t traveling or on the golf course, he would serve helping others improve their golf game (including the Aggie Men’s Golf Team), assist with the local homebuilder’s association, advise on a city hall issue, or in the stands at an Aggie sporting event.
Buck is survived by his beloved wife of over 36 years, Linda Ann Willding Prewitt; children from his first marriage to Gail Edwards Prewitt (deceased), son William “Ansel” Prewitt, IV, daughter Casey Prewitt McJunkin and spouse Casey McJunkin, daughter Penny Prewitt Jones and spouse Robert Jeffery Jones; grandsons Robert Justin Jones (wife Lisa), and William Joshua Jones; granddaughters Carmen McJunkin, and Candance McJunkin; Sister Margie Prewitt Redden, brothers John Prewitt and Sydney “Butch” Prewitt. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Millicent “Susie” Prewitt Fuller, and brother Raymond Prewitt.
