Wiliam Robert Hammann Jr

March 4, 1941 — May 12, 2023

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Gilbert and daughter Beth Brown, both of College Station, grandsons Michael McClendon of Austin and Rob McClendon of Houston, sister-in-law Judy Gilbert of Lovelady and nephew Thomas Gilbert and his wife, Kristin, and their children of Willis. Bob never met a stranger and developed his communication and leadership skills through his many formative years’ activities. Bob graduated from Lamar High School, Houston, in 1959. There, he was proud to be on the Debate Team, on the Baseball Team that made it to the State Championship game in 1959 and the Swim Team. He was a Lifeguard at the Shamrock Hilton Hotel in Houston during his summer breaks. He earned the Eagle Scout award and the God and Country award from the Boy Scouts of America. His God and Country sermon was delivered at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, where he was an active member for many years, attended MYF and later became the Church Treasurer, alongside his father, Bill Hammann. He attended The University of Texas, Austin and graduated in 1962 with a BS degree in Business Marketing. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He married Betty, his college sweetheart, February 3, 1962. Their only child Beth Marie was born later that year in Austin and she was their pride and joy. They moved to Houston where Bob graduated from the University of Houston with an MBA in Financial Marketing in 1966, while working full-time in the areas of Marketing and Finance. He had a wonderful career for over 40 years that included worldwide travel opportunities. He and Betty traveled extensively and he documented these experiences, along with pictures, to share with the family.
Bob’s daily communication with family and friends was imperative. He loved sharing stories and spending time with family and his many friends. He and Betty moved to College Station in 2015 to be closer to their family. He was blessed to have both grandsons assisting them with many needs once they moved.
Bob will be laid to rest on Monday, May 22nd at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 5501 Main St., Houston, Texas 77004.
