Born Nov. 18, 1943 in Ava Mo, he was the son of Russell and Georgia Mackey and brother to Eldon Mackey and Billy Dixon.
Weldon was raised by his dynamic grandmother – Remah Johnson whom had a love for reading and poetry which lived on in Weldon. He was raised in Los Angelos CA.
Weldon was in a band during high school and played the drums. This band was on tv and played for the RAMS football team, and many dances in LA for years. He was a scuba diver, a great water skier and a black belt in karate. He enjoyed refurbishing and racing hot rods.
Weldon graduated from Bell Gardens Highschool, and went to Cerritos College in CA for one semester and then moved to Longview Texas in 1962. He graduated from Kilgore Junior College and then went to Stephen F. Austin State University where he completed his Bachelors of Business Administration degree.
Weldon always said he was very blessed because he got to marry the love of his life — Peggy Marie Pharr. They were married in 1964 in Longview Texas. For the next 20 years his company moved him and his family to from Memphis, TN, to Lake Charles LA, Longview, TX, Dallas, TX Fayetteville, AR and then in 1978 they moved to College Station where he planted his permanent roots.
Weldon always professed the wisdom and security of having multiple income streams coming in, so he was always juggled being a Skip Tracing Manager for a Financial Services Company, as well as an Insurance Claims Manager, and in his spare time he sold water filtration systems, nutritional supplements, worked a barter system, invested in oil and gas drilling companies, and Musack.
He also obtained his private investigator license, while he juggled all his responsibilities of providing for his family.
Weldon loved hunting and shared that passion with his son, Byron and grandsons, Grant, and Garrett as well.
Later in his career he bought and sold diamonds, and collected guns and coins.
He was active and volunteered with the Gideon foundation and delivered thousands of bibles, including distributing several bibles on his Daddy/Daughter trip to Ireland just last year!
He always carried around $2 bills and would give folks a $2 bill to strike up a casual conversation which always led to a broader discussion of God’s goodness!
After he officially retired from Fields Financial Services, he became a full-time private investigator and worked for several companies, law firms and individuals for the next 25 years. Boy did he have some GREAT PI stories!
Weldon and his wife Peggy had two children, Byron Keith Mackey, and Tara Dawn Mackey they grew up in College Station.

Weldon became a minister, married several people, and preached at various county, state, and federal prisons for many years. He also had a radio and YouTube ministry. He requested that his radio ministry be continued on Radio FM 1550 on Sunday mornings at 8:30 am Central time.
Later in his life, Weldon took up cooking and became an excellent chef. He especially enjoyed baking cakes and pies for different people for all sorts of occasions.
He was very good at remembering people’s birthdays, and due to his upbringing, he had a passion for making people feel special and celebrated. And even encouraging others during difficult times. I am sure most of us in this room have received one of his thoughtful birthday cards with
$2 bills or one of his delicious cakes or pies.
He was preceded in death by his son, Byron Mackey, parents, Georgia and Russell Mackey, his brothers Eldon Mackey and Billy Dixon, and his Grandmother Remah Johnson, who raised him.
