Wayne Johnson Wood passed peacefully from this world on February 4, 2025. He left behind a legacy of humble beginnings from the small South Texas town of Dilley. He was a loving son, brother, husband, grandfather, and friend that demonstrated an unwavering love for his family, friends, country and the countless people whose lives were impacted positively by him. He was known throughout his life for his fierce loyalty, impeccable character, and generous heart and will be remembered for these qualities and the many wonderful achievements that he accomplished throughout his life.
Born on October 27, 1930, in Gordon, Texas, he lived with his parents, Chester B. and Ila Johnson Wood and brother Chek. In 1944 his dad passed away and Ila and the two boys moved to Dilley to be closer to family. His parents instilled a strong work ethic and humbleness within him that he used selflessly throughout his life.
After graduating from Dilley High School, Wayne attended Kilgore Jr. College on a football scholarship. After Jr. College, he went to work until he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1950. While serving his country in Korea, he received several commendations as well as two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. After his honorable discharge from the military, Wayne attended University of Southern California where he graduated with a Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1961. Wayne worked at Honeywell for many years where he designed, developed and planned, among other things, military torpedoes. He later continued his education at the University of Washington earning a Masters of Business Administration Degree in 1985 in a special program. After retiring from Honeywell and receiving his MBA, he used his knowledge and experience to author a textbook that allowed him to teach complex engineering design and technology at businesses around the US and Canada.
He loved and married two amazing women. Norma who passed away in 2005 and Claudelle who knew him most his life. He inherited, by those marriages, sons, daughters and grandchildren who loved and admired him. Wayne enjoyed playing Bridge and reading but mostly playing golf. He was a lifetime Masonic member.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Chester B. and Ila Johnson Wood, Brother Chester (Chek) (Susie Mae), nephews’ Bryan and C.B. and cousin Joe Dan Wood. First wife Norma Wood and step-daughter Mary Jo Davenport.

Grandchildren Nick Davenport, Teresa Davenport, Jenny Taylor, Katie Scott, Noah Artner, Adam Artner, Amber Roberts and Morgan Sigle.
His quiet nature and quick wit, as well as his contagious smile, will forever be missed and remember by his family and friends.
