Wanda Wieland

April 9, 1936 — August 27, 2024

Wanda Wieland, 88, of Calvert, passed away on August 27, 2024, in Bryan, TX. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Calvert in Calvert, TX. Cremation services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station. Wanda was born in Nocona, TX on April 9, 1936, in her grandmother’s home to Walter and Mozelle Humble. Right after high school, she married the love of her life, Denton, on August 27, 1954. They were married for just three months shy of 50 years. She was a mother to two beautiful children, a son, and a daughter. While raising her children, she worked and put herself through school, earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tulsa. Wanda, or “Buster” as her Daddy called her, loved running around in the fields with her dog Muggins #1, exploring and probably getting into mischief (she would never admit it). You could also find her riding around with her daddy, learning everything she could from him. She played all the sports she could in high school and excelled in them, basketball being her favorite. Learning was one of her passions in life which led her to teaching. She taught high school in Calvert, TX where she was nominated twice for Top 100 Teachers in Texas! She was always a traveler and wanted to see the world. Wanda and Denton saw everything they could. In 1977, they took a job overseas and lived in Iran for 2 years, where she ran 22 offshore oil rigs. In 1979, they were evacuated from Iran to Greece. They finally made it to the United States and then went back to work in Saudi Arabia. After Saudi Arabia, she spent most of her time traveling in Europe and Asia. When she returned to the United States, she lived in the home they built together on D&W 101 Ranch in Calvert, TX. Wanda touched the lives of so many people. She was very well known for her ability to teach. Whether it would be a cooking lesson or a life lesson, you always learned something from Wanda Wieland. Wanda is survived by her son Denton Robert “Bob” and wife Laura Wieland, daughter Viki Wieland Rosprim; her grandchildren Lauren and husband Jacob Huff, Shane and wife Candice Pointer, Nichole Starr, Philip Joe “PJ” and wife Shana Rosprim, and Joshua Rosprim; her great grandchildren Sawyer, Kinslee, Ainslee, Kelsey, Whitley, Chase, Kendra, Hailey, Tatum, and Beau; extended family and friends. Preceded in death is her husband Dr. Denton Robert Wieland, her parents Walter and Mozelle Humble and Son in law Philip Joe Rosprim. Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
