Wanda Jean (Smith) Velasquez

March 7, 1956 — January 17, 2021

Wanda Velasquez, 64, of Bryan, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021, in College Station. Visitation will begin at 10 am, Saturday, February 6, 2021 with a Life Celebration Tribute at 11 am, at the funeral center. As a precautionary measure face mask or face cover is required for the service. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

Wanda was born in Andrews, Texas, to Connie “Buck” Smith and Leatha Todd. She was raised by her mom and stepdad Weldon O’Neil Beck. She married GySgt. Dennis Velasquez, USMC Retired on January 2, 1992. To this union a beautiful daughter was born on June 29, 1997, Lillia Nicole Velasquez. Wanda’s life with Dennis was truly an adventure as a Marine Corp Wife. She enjoyed her travels and loved spending time on the beach near Camp Pendleton California where they were stationed. Wanda spent many hours with Lillia showing her beach life and building sandcastles. Wanda’s life was complete as a mother to Lillia and grandmother to Aubrielle. Although her departure from the beach life would be bittersweet, she soon found the excitement of building a new house in Texas and creating a loving home with her family and friends. Wanda was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Her parents, Leatha Beck and Weldon O’Neil Beck; her daughter, Lillia Velasquez-Gonzalez; her brother, Ricky Joe Smith; her sister, Joyce Hammonds and husband Don; her brother-in-law, Jo Willie; all preceded Wanda in death.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis, of 29 years; her son-in-law, Greg Gonzalez; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Anthony and Gertrude Velasquez; her granddaughter, Aubrielle Nicole Gonzalez; her brother, Bobby Watkins; her sister Linda Maresh; her nephews and nieces, Andrew Watkins, Jason Watkins, Candace Jones, and Christopher Smith; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Christine and Carl Orozco, Andrea and Randy Montes, Brenda and Tim Coomes; and a host of other family and friends.
