Wallace "Gene" Garrison

Wallace “Gene” Garrison, 94, of College Station, Texas, passed away on May 11, 2024.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Evelyn Hedick Garrison, father, Wallace Floyd Garrison, sister, Joe Anne Garrison Flippin, her husband Rex Flippin and niece Beckey Wright Flippin.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Louise Wolff Garrison, son Douglas Gene Garrison and wife Julie Gillig Garrison, son David Lee Garrison and wife Lavonne Stewart Garrison, and daughter Carolyn Louise Garrison Kendall and husband John Michael Kendall.  He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Rachel Garrison Scott and husband Taylor, Chase Steven Reeves and wife Katherine, Randall Gene Garrison and wife Lisa, Spencer Garrison Reeves and wife Amy, and Tanner Allen Kendall; seven great-grandchildren, Cullen, Landry, Sloane, Alex, Abby, Avery, and Max and niece Rexanne McCauley and nephew Tony Flippin.

Gene was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on December 14, 1929.  He joined the Navy in 1945 and served four years.  After his service to our country, he attended Texas A&M University and majored in Animal Husbandry.  While at A&M he served as the C.O. of F Battery in the Corps of Cadets and was a proud member of the Class of ’53.  Upon graduation he worked for Purina at the Checkerboard store in Gonzales, Texas, where he met his life’s love, Dottie Wolff. While there he served in the 36th Division of the Army National Guard. Shortly after marrying, the couple moved to Center, Texas where their three children were born.  Gene left Purina and entered the banking industry where he spent the next 28 years. Gene always wanted to get back to College Station and be closer to his Fightin’ Texas Aggies.  Gene and Dottie moved to College Station in 1996 and in 2002 he went to work for the Texas A&M College of Medicine Health Science Center from which he retired.

Gene and Dottie enjoyed traveling stateside and abroad with one of his favorite places being Scotland.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed doing so with his family and friends. His dream of having a boat for fishing on the Texas coast came to fruition and he named her the “Miss Dottie.”  He also loved the traditions of Texas A&M University and Aggie football being a season football ticket holder since 1974.  Aggie football was always a family event. 

Gene’s faith in Jesus Christ sustained him through life and assured him his place in Heaven.
