Tom H. Wilson

June 28, 1942 — August 12, 2023

Tom Wilson, a loving brother, husband, father, koro, uncle, brother-in-law and friend passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 in Bryan, Texas. Tom was born and raised in Napier, New Zealand growing up along Westshore Beach and was the second oldest of 12 siblings. Westshore Beach was the Wilson kids’ playground, and there were many stories told about fishing adventures and catching black swans. He attended Westshore school where he excelled to Dux of the school. At 15 he left New Zealand and traveled to Australia where he lived for 15 years before returning home. During those years, Tom was an avid surfer and a surf life saver. While back home in New Zealand he continued his surf lifesaving and started playing rugby for the Napier Pirates Rugby Club, where he also coached the Pirates Colts rugby team. He worked for Hawkes Bay Reinforcing Company before eventually opening his own company, Marson-Wilson Reinforcing along with his mate.

Rugby would eventually lead him to his love, Beverly, who was in New Zealand visiting her Nana, Nan and other relatives. It was her cousin that introduce them, and they were married in New Zealand, on December 9, 1978. Eventually, wanting to be closer to Beverly’s family, led to the decision to head back to Texas where he worked for the City of College Station. After running marathons in New Zealand, he ran a few in Texas before running half marathons with Beverly and his sisters-in-law. After retiring from the City and a short stint back in New Zealand in the mid 90’s, Tom worked for an environmental company, Entact, that would end up taking him all over the United States and to Puerto Rico before his retirement.

Tom is preceded in death by his father Harry Wilson, his mother Reremoana “Rose” Paora, his brother Allan Wilson and sister Mary Kirton.
He is survived by his love, Beverly (Arnold) Wilson, of College Station, TX, daughter, Stacy and her husband Adam Borgfeld, of Madisonville, TX, son Matthew and his wife Jessica (Allen) Wilson of Coppell, TX, and son Jeremy McClintock of Eaton, Western Australia, along with his grandchildren, Ryan Kinsey, Madaline Wilson, Bryce Wilson, Presley Wilson, Blake Borgfeld, Cody Borgfeld, Toby McClintock, Ava McClintock and Zella McClintock, his sisters Liz, Berry, Margaret, Leonie, Jane, and brothers Harold, John, Harry, Richard and half siblings Stanley and Tania along with many nieces and nephews.

Tom’s love of the ocean, the All Blacks and the Texas A&M Aggies are well known throughout the family, but, his greatest love was his family. Tom’s greatest joy was being able to watch his children and grandchildren playing and participating in all their various sports and activities and being right there on the side to cheer them on.

There will be a celebration of Tom’s life on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, Texas at 2:00pm. His ashes will be taken home to New Zealand at a later date to celebrate his life with his whanau and friends before the scattering of his ashes at Westshore Beach.
