Stella Baker

June 13, 1931 — June 29, 2020

Stella was born June 13, 1931 at her parent’s home in Houston, Texas where she grew up. A graveside service will be held July 2, 2020 where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Reliance Cemetery in Bryan, Texas. Arrangements are with Callaway-Jones Funeral Home.

After marrying Clifford “John” Baker on February 17, 1950 they moved between Texas and California a few times but returned to Texas where they raised their 4 children and finally settled in Bryan in 1971. Stella spent most of her adult life as a homemaker until the early 80’s when she started cleaning homes and businesses. She loved taking care of everyone. She loved spending time with her family and especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always had special treats for everyone and made sure she had everyone’s favorites available. Her house was always where the kids hung out, whether it was the children’s friends, family friends, grandkids, or just kids from down the street. They all loved Grandma Baker.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry Nemec and Anna Kotal Nemek, two brothers, Charlie Nemec and Rudolph Nemec, a sister, Barbara Hall, her husband Clifford “John” Baker in 1992, and most recently her son, Clint Baker, in February of 2020.

She is survived by one brother Johnnie Joe Nemec, a son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Debbie Baker of Dayton, Texas, daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Fred Keller of Bryan, Texas and daughter Brenda Hobson of The Woodlands, Texas. She is also survived by her 10 Grandchildren: Michael Baker, Jeffrey Jordan, Wesley Keller, Michele Seale, Joshua Jordan, Amber Crump, Cole Baker, Amanda Thibodeaux, Kyle Hobson and Kaitlyn Lingo, 17 Great-Grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Stella loved garage sales and shopping at WalMart. She enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, dominoes and Bingo and watching the game shows. She also loved baseball, especially the Texas Rangers. And always enjoyed Mexican food.
