Shirley Fly Reece, 92 years old of Bryan Tx. passed away on December 19, 2024. She was born July 24, 1932, to Doak and Margaret Fly in Gibson, Tennessee. Shirley grew up and lived in Tennessee and was raised in the Methodist Church. She played basketball in high school and was an avid sports enthusiast. Shirley enjoyed watching many different sports, either in person or on TV with her family. She excelled in sewing, making garments for her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and the epitome of the homemaker, supporting her husband and children.
Shirley married the love of her life, Robert Keith Reece, in Gibson Tennessee in the Methodist Church, May 19, 1951. They were married for over 72 years.
Keith was in the US Air Force and Shirley was by his side thru 27 moves. They traveled and lived in 25 cities and many states. There were many times that she raised their 3 children alone as Keith was away on assignment. They eventually settled in Montgomery Alabama, where he retired. Shirley and Keith moved to Bryan, Texas in 2002.
They were members of First United Methodist Church of Bryan, where they were actively involved. Shirley was very devoted to her Sunday school class and her Bible study.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Keith, her parents, Doak and Margaret Fly, as well as her brother and 3 sisters.
Shirley is survived by her children, son Michael Keith Reece and his wife Sharon Cargill,her son Richard Kent Reece and wife Sonya Branum, her daughter Lori Reece and her husband, Donald Patrick Norris; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at First Methodist Church Bryan (506 E28th Street, Bryan) on December 30, 2024, at 10:00am, at once followed by graveside service at Steep Hollow Cemetery. Following the graveside service, there will be a lunch reception in the Veranda, 4706 Wallis Rd, Bryan, TX 77808.
Memorial contributions may be given in honor of Shirley to St. Jude’s Hospital. (501 St Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or stjude.org) Also, contributions may be made to First Methodist Church, 506 E. 28th street, Bryan, Texas 77805.
