Shirley Redman

Shirley Redman, 86, of Wellborn, TX, passed on Monday, June 27th 2022. Honoring their mother’s request, a private funeral service will be held. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.
Shirley was a devoted daughter, a sassy sister, a wonderful wife, a marvelous mother and a generous & giving grandmother & great grandmother.
Shirley was born at home in George, Texas. The oldest child of 3 to Gladys Marie Hunter & Lenwood Carter. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan. Working at International Shoe Company with her mother and later Pruitt’s Fabric Shop for 15 years. She became a talented seamstress, making all of her children’s clothes as well as being a paid seamstress making clothes for others. Shirley’s career also included being a book keeper for several businesses up until her retirement in 1989. She along with her parents and siblings were founding members of Calvary Baptist Church in Bryan. She was an election judge for Brazos County & City of College Station for more than 25 years. She married James ‘JC’ Redman of Wellborn in August 1952. They shared 57 years of marriage together before his passing in January 2010. Together they raised 4 children, being active parents in all of their children’s many years of sports & school projects. They lived on and worked the Redman family farm that was established in 1922 by J.C.’s parents, raising cattle & producing hay.
Shirley enjoyed 50 years with her Ladies Bridge group and 40 years with her 42 dominoes group. She was also a member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed researching family genealogy and assisted in the 1970’s Brazos County Cemetery Registry. She loved working in her flower beds, reading mystery books, making many types of sewing crafts, cooking for family holidays & always had a jigsaw puzzle in progress.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her firstborn infant son, her husband; James C. Redman and her son, John Lynn Redman Sr.
Survivors include her son, Jim Redman and wife Patricia of Houston, TX, granddaughter Katheryn Hedblom and husband Brent and great grandchildren Conrad & Harlyn Hedblom of Katy, TX, grandson Christopher Redman and wife Laura and great grandchildren Charlotte & Ella Redman of Houston, TX. Her daughter, Nancy Dippel and husband Henry of Wellborn, TX, granddaughter Teri Gaston & husband Steven and great grandchildren Cayce & Colton Gaston of Uvalde, TX. Her son, Jerry Redman and wife Billie Jo of College Station, TX. Her grandson John Redman Jr. and wife Mandy and great grandchildren Hunter & Hanna Redman of Hearne, TX. Her grandson Jarrott Olree and wife Candace and great grandchildren Kassidy, Carson & Ashlee Olree of Kountze, TX. Her brothers, Lynn Carter of Lewisville, TX and James Carter and wife Kathy of Bryan, TX and many nieces & nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Hospice of Brazos Valley in Bryan, TX.
