Sandra Lynn Tucker

June 2, 1948 — September 25, 2024

Sandra Lynn Tucker, née Brown, died peacefully at home in Bryan, Texas on September 25, 2024, after a long illness. She was born June 2, 1948, to Victor and Margaret Brown in Seattle, Washington.
Sandy was an intellectually curious scholar and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Washington State University before receiving her Masters in Slavic Languages and Literature at Indiana University and her Masters in Library and Information Science at the University of Texas. During her graduate studies at Indiana, she met Harvey Tucker, and they married in 1971.
She achieved a great deal in her career and retired from her position as Associate Professor at Texas A&M University in 2014. In her prior role at the Texas Transportation Institute, she initiated the creation of the Transportation Research Thesaurus, a tool to provide a common and consistent language between producers and users of transportation information, which enables people to find and share knowledge. She remained involved in the oversight of the Thesaurus into her retirement.
During retirement, she enjoyed volunteering as the financial advisor to the Texas A&M chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta. She kept busy with travel, visiting friends, playing mahjong, and studying the flute.
She was known for her outstanding taste in all matters, including her personal style, home decor, art, food, and hospitality. She was an accomplished cook and baker and shared her expertise in pie making with many students. She was an active member in Brazos Valley gourmet cooking and wine organizations since moving to Bryan in 1978.
She is dearly missed by husband Harvey, sons Michael and David, children-in-law Zenia and Joshua, sisters Nancy and Margaret, brother Charlie, and her siblings-in-law, niece, nephews, friends, and colleagues.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 AM, November 8 at First Presbyterian Church in Bryan, Texas. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations to the Brazos Valley Symphony or the charity of your choosing.
