Russell Alan Engel

Russ Engel passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 after a long battle with ALS at his home in Bryan, Texas.  Russ was born in Ada, Oklahoma to his parents, James D. Engel and Carmelita A. Jennings Engel.

Russ graduated from Andrews High School in Andrews, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Degree in Biology.  While studying biology, he completed the hours necessary to sit for the CPA exam.  He was a Certified Public Accountant and worked in Oil and Gas Accounting for Coastal Management Corporation and Schlumberger.   After retiring from Schlumberger he started his own company, Retama Resources.  He managed the development and the implementation of complex Oil and Gas Business and Accounting Processes. One of Russ’s passions was mentoring young people on career goals.  He introduced students to accounting and other business processes while providing part time employment in Oil and Gas Accounting.  Thus, providing experience to support recommendations he supplied when they graduated.

Russ is survived by his sister, Marinee Ricks and her husband, Bill, his nephew, Ryan Perkins, his wife, LaTisha, and their daughter, Addison.  Russ was loved by his many family friends, work colleagues and his caregivers over the past several years.  Russ’s cremated remains will be placed with his mother and father in Oklahoma City.
