Roger Nelson Sheridan

October 11, 1944 — January 21, 2021

Roger Nelson Sheridan, 76, a loving and honorable man, passed away at home surrounded by his family on January 21, 2021. He will always be remembered for his passionate spirit to live the simple life, thoughtfulness towards others, and profound devotion to family and friends.

Roger was born October 11, 1944 to Gilbert and Dorothy Littlefield Sheridan in Cutler, Maine. He treasured his Maine grassroots and even more so those relations with his brothers and sisters, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, and beloved friends.

He was blessed to meet Jeanne Blake Sheridan as his devoted love early in life. They shared over 54 inseparable years together as one with a mutual passion for life’s adventure as a team, inseparable, and incomplete without the other. In union, they had one son, Roger Oregon Sheridan.

Family was everything to this man. He was an amazing father to his son, “Orie,” whom he considered his best friend in which he took the greatest of pride. Together they were a team and enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching little league baseball, and most importantly, being good humanitarians. Roger especially loved his two grandchildren, Jessica and Justin Sheridan, where he cherished every single moment with them and proudly witnessed their life’s journey to the most accomplished young adults.

Roger was known by many names. “Chipper” in early childhood days, “Gunny” by his military friends, and later in life as “Pa.” However, Roger will allows be known as a “Good Man.” Roger understood the significance of life and valued first and foremost his family and friends. He believed in a hard day’s work and the importance of reaping the rewards at the end of the day with a cold Bud Light.

Roger became a brother and dear friend to so many. He left a memorable place in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of being touch by him. To know him was to love and respect him. Many felt his kindness and ability to give of himself. In turn, he was loved by many and shall not be forgotten.

As a proud American, Roger enlisted in the US Marine Corps and honorable served his country for twenty years. Some of his most memorable duties during that time included his tour of duty in Vietnam, Drill Instructor at Parris Island, 3 ½ years at Texas A & M University teaching military science and being the NCOIC at the Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela.

Other samplings of Roger’s life included being a Trustee of the Dr. David E. Schob Nature Preserve where he also played a major role in its creation. He was a strong advocate for military organizations and took special pride in helping to create the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Bryan, Texas. He was a lifetime member of the Brazos Valley Vietnam Veterans Chapter 937, American Legion Post 0159, and the Marine Corps League.

Roger was predeceased by his parents and sisters: Shirley Innis, Lorraine Sheridan, and Barbara Donovan; and his brothers: Gilbert Sheridan, Eugene Sheridan, Asa Sheridan, and Francis (Sheridan) Randal.

Roger leaves behind a loving wife Jeanne, son Roger “Orie” Sheridan and wife Jodi, grandchildren Jessica and Justin Sheridan; Sisters Esther Auer and Elizabeth Harmon; his sister-in-law Judith Rinaldi and partner Tim; his brother and sister-in-law Benjamin and Jill Blake, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Services will be scheduled at a future COVID-19 safe date at the Camp Creek Cemetery, Franklin, Texas.
