Dr. Robert “Bob” Dean Chenoweth passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 21, 2021 at the age of 94. Funeral services will be held at A&M United Methodist Church, 417 University Drive, College Station, TX at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Due to Covid conditions, the family requests that guests wear a mask and observe social distancing practices at the service or join us on-line for the live-stream. Live-streams of the service can be found on the A&M United Methodist Church Facebook page or YouTube channel.
Bob was born in San Angelo, Texas on October 17, 1926. He graduated from what was then Texas A&M College with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to earn a Masters from A&M and a PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer. Bob pursued a career in academia, teaching Electrical Engineering at A&M, Case Institute of Technology, and the University of Missouri at Rolla, before returning to his beloved Texas A&M University in 1967, where he continued to teach and then became Assistant Dean of Engineering. Bob retired in 1989.
He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Aurora Yancy on July 1, 1947. When they weren’t raising their four children, Bob and Elizabeth enjoyed church activities, playing bridge with their friends, and traveling.
Bob was an active member of A&M United Methodist Church serving at various times on all of the major committees and was a member of the Golden Rule class there. For a several decades he was the “brownie guy” at the A&M Wesley Foundation passing out brownies that he had baked and listening to students. He was very active in the Habitat for Humanity, whether pounding nails or ordering construction materials for the latest build.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Chenoweth; his son John Stephen Chenoweth and wife Lillian Chenoweth of Denton, TX and their children Ben and Ellen Chenoweth; his son Todd Chenoweth and wife Jan Chenoweth of Austin, TX and daughter Dr. Julia Gold and her husband Philip Gold; his son Roger Chenoweth and wife Julie Chenoweth of Raleigh, NC and their six daughters and dozen grandchildren, Hilerie and Dave Gellenbeck, Dr. Mercedes and Dr. Matthew Pizzuto, Alexandria and Ian Ray-McMillian, April Ray (deceased), Haley and Matthew May, Jennifer Chenoweth; and his daughter Ann Chenoweth and her partner Douglas Hale, of Garberville, CA. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Dean Chenoweth, mother, Mary Ellen Chenoweth, and sister Vesta Chenoweth Jenson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to A&M United Methodist Church, A&M Wesley Foundation or Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity or the charity of your choice.
