Richard ended his earthly journey the evening of April 18, 2022 surrounded by family in College Station, Texas. We will celebrate his life, and lay him to rest, at 10:00am April 26, 2022, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
Richard, known as Dick or Rich to his family and friends, was born in Decatur, Illinois on November 19, 1946. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Lester and Martha Siburt Decker. Richard served his country in the United States Army, and had boots on the ground in Vietnam. He later became a truck and motor coach driver, traveling extensively. He moved a few times, settling in Texas to make it it his home. He was a man of strong character and firm convictions who loved a good joke, told the greatest stories, and enjoyed fishing with the family, spending time outdoors and tending to furbabies. He leaves behind his loving wife, Amy, four daughters: Dawn (James), Ronda, Audrey (Jeff), Joanie (Keith), son John, seven grandchildren: Alex, Ryan, Theo, Robert, Katherine, Evan, and Sarah, brother David, sister Reva (Tony), several brothers in arms, and many friends. We will all miss his bright smile and hearty laugh.
To honor his love of country, the family requests red, white, or blue attire is worn for his celebration.
In lieu of flowers, Amy requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his honor. https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/ Please share words of love, comfort, encouragement, or your favorite Richard story at www.callawayjones.com
