Rebecca was born on July 10, 1964, to Johnny Ruiz and Guadalupe Hernandez Ruiz, in Bryan.
Rebecca had a deep personal faith in Christ that gave her strength and compelled her to witness to God’s grace. She was born into a family of faith in Christ and had the humility of Christ that led her to serve. Rebecca was member of First Methodist Church, Bryan and member of the SS Sunday school class that she attended faithfully with her parents.
Becky along with her sister Angela was instrumental in establishing Templo Espiritu Santo. As a young adult she poured her life into this church to give it a foundation. She sang in the choir and helped with VBS.
As a student she excelled. Her passion for music motivated her in high school she received many music awards and always maintained First chair as alto saxophone, she also played piano in high school. Graduated in the top 10 at Bryan High School and received a full ride in scholarships to Texas A&M. She attended Texas A&M as Bio-Medical student for three years with the hope of Vet School. She then decided to leave Texas A&M and head to Sam Houston State University to pursue her true passion in life, Music. Before Becky finished college, she developed a mental health issue that changed her life forever. Becky’s passion for music helped her through the times mental health took control of her of mind. She would say if she could hear the Music, she knew she was going to be ok. Becky has always been a caregiver. When her sister Angela became very sick and her mom needed to be with Angela, she would help take care of her dad. After her sister passed in 2018, Becky helped to take care of her mom (Lupe) and dad (Johhny) until he passed in 2020. Following his death Becky, has been living with and taking care of her mom. She loved to watch sports, she enjoyed watching all sports, but her favorites were the Cowboys and Aggie Football. She spent most every evening watching game shows with her mom. Press your Luck (no whammies) and Family Feud.
Becky was asked by her brother (Richard)and Sophia (sister in-law) to play the piano at their marriage ceremony in 2002. Becky was so nervous but was so excited and practiced for months, she had not played the piano in several years. But on June 15, 2002, she sat down at that piano and played the most beautiful song. Her face filled with joy as everyone clapped for her at the end of the song.
Becky never married; she was so honored to stand with her sister Angela on her wedding day. She was so happy for her sister and brother in-law (Johnny Zavodny). She never was able to work due to her mental illness, so she became the Best Volunteer. She volunteered every chance and helped her parents with their cleaning company.
Becky loved Animals, she had many cats and dogs over the years. She even fed the neighborhood strays. She loved to feed the Birds and Squirrels. Becky loved to drive around on Christmas Eve delivering gifts to family, but her favorite time of year was Spring, she loved to plant flowers and plant seeds for vegetables and tomatoes. She loved to swim in their backyard pool and have friends over.
She always showed her love for Christ to her niece (Ellie) and nephew (Harvard)she taught them the Lord loves All and to love the Lord and do their best. She was so proud of Ellie when she was accepted to Texas A&M, and she loved watching Harvard on the theatre stage.
She loved the Lord. She was not one who just talked to talk following her mental health disease diagnosis, so when she did talk, she had everyone’s attention. She was a humble servant who showed faithfulness and God’s love to us all. If she were here today, instead of with the Lord, she would say I love you, Mom. She would want to say thank you to all her family for always loving her and showing patience and kindness to her. She would also say that what she could only imagine in heaven is now her hope fulfilled in every way.
Rebecca is survived by her mother Guadalupe Hernandez Ruiz; her brother, Richard and wife Sophia Ruiz; her niece, Ellie Ruiz; her nephew, Harvard Ruiz; and other relatives and close friends.
