Raymond was born on January 5, 1954, to Robert Lawrence and Mary Ann Norcross Eppers in Bryan. A determined and enthusiastic soul for life, Raymond married his beloved high school sweetheart, Dawn Elyse Hall, in 1972 shortly after their graduation from Huntsville High School. To this loving union three wonderful children were born, Nathan, Matthew, and Elyse.
After graduating from Texas State Technical College in Waco, TX., Ray continued his education at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. Ray served his community and state in various capacities. He worked as a corrections officer, and many years as a parole officer where he received much recognition. He also enjoyed volunteering at the precinct level and as a delegate with the Republican State Convention. For fourteen years, until May 2022, he thoroughly enjoyed working with the Texas A&M Athletic Department in the concessions warehouse for all athletic events. Ray delighted in his popcorn-making skills and providing this snack for all the games.
Ray’s greatest accomplishment was being a family man. Through the ups and downs of life, he and Dawn supported each other to keep their love and family strong. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage this past November. Ray supported his children and grandchildren in all their activities, attending every event possible. He worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure their success.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Mary Ann; and his mother and father-in-law, Hugh and Doris Hall. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Eppers; son, Nathan Eppers; granddaughters, Mackenzie Eppers and fiancé, Mason Ray; great-granddaughter, Rylie, on the way and Faith Eppers; son, Matthew Eppers; daughter, Elyse and husband, Stephen Sutphen; grandsons, Josh, Jacob, and Jace Sutphen. Ray loved his siblings, Bill Eppers and husband, Marcus Weems, Victor “Vic” and wife, Paula Eppers, Susan Calhoun, and Sharon Calhoun Braden and husband, Bruce Braden; sisters-in-law, Dixie Hall Gray and Dana Hall. Other loved family members include his aunt Mildred “Baby Lou” Sebesta; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Known lovingly as Ray-Ray to many family members and friends, he is greatly missed but because of his belief in Christ we know he is resting in the arms of our Lord.
