Poe was born in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma on November 23, 1941. Poe grew up in Durant, Oklahoma, where he participated in sports and excelled in academics. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Oklahoma State University then graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He served in the United States Army Reserve, and he often told stories about his summer jobs at Lake Texoma Lodge. Poe taught school in Sherman, Texas, worked for the Texas Education Agency as an area consultant, and served as a Financial Planner with Edward Jones before retiring from A.G. Edwards.
He loved to fish and play golf, and he made great friends along the way. Poe loved to travel, and also enjoyed his back patio where we would listen to music, dance with his wife, build fires in the fireplace, and pet their cat, Kittles, while watching old western movies.
