Olan Guy “Toby” Tobias, D.V.M., passed into the arms of our Savior on January 28, 2022, at the age of 91 after a period of illness.
Toby is survived by his wife, Linda Loftis Tobias, his children, Tiffany Lynn Cox, D.V.M. of Fort Worth, and James Randall Tobias of Seattle, WA, his sister, Barbara Coker, as well as nieces Laurie Taylor, Patty Skalaban, and nephew, David Taylor, all of Bryan.
Toby was born on April 23, 1930 to Annie Laura Tobias and David Guy Tobias. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in veterinary medicine where he received the Outstanding Veterinary Student Award. His veterinary career spanned more than 50 years during which time he treated both small and large animals, specializing in equine medicine, as well as serving as veterinarian to the Fort Worth Zoo. After retirement from veterinary medicine he worked for the Texas Racing Commission for a period of years.
On May 30, 1966, he married Linda Loftis Tobias and in 1970 and 1974 respectively he welcomed daughter, Tiffany, and son, James.
Toby was a beloved father and husband who’s interests extended to quarter horse breeding. He loved to rope and raise successful racing quarter horses. He was known as an outstanding horseman and practitioner.
Toby was a spiritual man whose integrity and compassion demonstrated his Christian faith. He. had many dedicated friends who continued to seek his counsel long after he had retired. His life is a testimony of service and accomplishment. His legacy will live on in the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
We regret that in consideration of COVID concerns, a private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 8th at Steep Hollow Cemetery. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions to one’s favorite charity are made.
