Ngọc Điệp (Vương) Nguyễn, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 10, 2023 in College Station, Tx surrounded by her loving family. She was 81 years old. She had been residing in Colorado with her daughters until her sudden recent illness.
Ngọc Điệp was born on April 20, 1942 in Vietnam. She grew up with a large and close knit family and was the youngest of 10 children as well as part of a twin with her younger brother. She was an elementary school teacher, and married Bình Nguyễn. They had 5 children and lived during the turbulent fall of Saigon which ended the Vietnam war. They emigrated to the United States in April 1975.
She began a new life in the US in her early thirties, learning a new language and culture and raising her young family. Her family was supported by a small Baptist church in Palestine, TX (Lone Pine Baptist Church) and she remembered many people there fondly who helped them so much. She remained very grateful to that church family and community.
Ngọc Điệp has lived in Houston, Texas for most of her life in the US. She has many close friends there that she met at the temple in Houston. She has a gentle heart for any living thing and has been a vegetarian for most of her adult life. She was a faithful follower of Buddha and was very active in the temple. She enjoys cooking traditional Vietnamese food as well as trying new recipes.
She lived in Colorado for several years at the end of her life with her children. She really enjoyed the beautiful scenery and weather there. Ngọc Điệp also loved plants and was gifted with a green thumb. She was able to rescue many plants on death’s door and bring them back to healthy thriving plants. She particularly loved flowers and fruit trees and enjoyed visiting many gardens when she had the chance.
Dogs of any type have a special place in her heart. Luckily she was blessed to have several in her life and enjoyed being Bà Ngoại (grandma) to several dogs later in life.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bình Nguyễn and survived by her children and grandchildren who remember her lovingly and will miss her exceedingly. We ask humbly for your kind prayers for her.
