Nancy Nuche Whitlock passed on to her eternal life when our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ came for her on April 11, 2024. We are thrilled she is whole, walking, and worshiping The Almighty, free of Parkinson’s Disease which made her final days on earth difficult.
Nancy was born in Bryan, Texas on May 14, 1942, to Lucy Collette and Sam Nuche Jr. Throughout her childhood, Nancy attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, showed animals as she participated in 4H, and worked in her dad’s grocery store, Nuche’s Supermarket. She graduated from SFA High School in Bryan, Texas and then went to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She received her BS Degree in Business with an additional Teaching Certification. Her first job after college was teaching in the Upper Level schools in Milano, Texas. She taught a variety of courses 8th-12th grade, served as the District Winners high school girls basketball coach, and was the faculty sponsor for the pep squad.
According to God’s Providence, Nancy met Larry Whitlock when he shopped at her dad’s grocery store. Nancy married her best friend and true love, Larry Whitlock, on February 19, 1966. The Lord blessed them with two children Lisa and Lee. With children, Nancy gave up teaching and worked to train her children in the knowledge of the Lord according to Deuteronomy 6:4-8. She taught Pre-School at Humpty Dumpty while her children were young. Later, she opened a clothing business, The Clothes Palace, with her sister, Katherine Fronterhouse, and long-time friend Mary Ann Reina. After many years in the retail business, the sisters sold the business and Nancy went back to the school system. Nancy worked at Stephen F. Austin Jr. High until retirement. Many Bryan residents remember Nancy from her job as Administrative Assistant to the principals at SFA Jr. High.
Perhaps her most well-known job was being Larry’s helpmate, as he served as a bi-vocational music pastor. While Larry praised the Lord through singing, the Lord gave Nancy the gift of hospitality. She spent many hours with college students, who needed a home-cooked meal or just a “home away from home.” In addition, she was always faithful to organize and provide meals to friends and family who were in need.
Nancy Nuche Whitlock is preceded in death by her parents, Lucy Collette Nuche and Sam Nuche Jr., as well as her sister Katherine Nuche Fronterhouse, Richard Fronterhouse (brother-in-law), and John Fronterhouse (nephew). Nancy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Larry Whitlock; daughter Lisa Whitlock Provines (husband, David Provines); son Lee Whitlock (wife, Colette Whitlock); niece Sabrina Fronterhouse; four grandchildren – Benjamin Provines (wife, Melanie Provines), Rebekah Provines (wife, Kellie Provines), Katherine Whitlock Gonzales (husband, Josh Gonzales), Lucy Whitlock; two great-grandchildren – Lucas Provines and Jack Provines; numerous cousins and a multitude of faithful friends.
