Nami Miyatani at age 53 passed away on May 29th, 2024, in College Station, Texas after a long battle with cervical cancer. She was a beloved partner, daughter, sister, and friend to so many. We lost a true light on earth.
Nami was born October 20th, 1970, in Atlanta, Georgia. Nami and her family moved to College Station in 1977. She has called College Station home ever since.
Nami is survived by her parents Tadayoshi & Mineko Miyatani of Yokohama, Japan, and her brother Mark Miyatani from Gardena, California.
In 2017, Nami met the love of her life and her partner Mandy Anderson. Together they lived life to the fullest. She leaves behind Mandy and Mandy’s mother Suzanne who became another mother to Nami and her fur-babies Josey Bella and Big Daddy. She also leaves behind her brother from another mother, Jack Hernandez, and her sisters from other misters, Li-Wen “Molly” Yu-Dang, Monique Shellberg, Debra Archuleta Gerlt, and Archna Jaiswar Dhingra, niece and nephew Aarti Jaiswar Sprick and Rahul Jaiswar.
Nami graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1989. She loved her class and continued to stay close to so many of her fellow alumni. Nami became a certified nurse’s aide after high school and continued in the medical field as a dialysis technician up until she started her fight. She so enjoyed working with her co-workers and her patients over the years.
Nami had such a love for life she was always the life of any event or gathering. She had an infectious laugh that would brighten anyone’s day. She is the most selfless person we know.
Nami was an avid fisherwoman who loved the outdoors. Nami loved most sports but especially World Cup Soccer, Aggie anything, Atlanta Braves baseball and, of course, the Houston Astros. She was a beast on the softball field, hitting her first over-the-fence homerun in the 3rd grade. She was so competitive and would whoop anyone at arcade or bar games. Whether it was darts, pool, skee-ball, pinball, Galaga, Big Duck Hunter, Golden Tee Golf, if you played her, you would probably lose.
Everyone knew Nami loved her smooth jazz, but she was a country kid at heart. Back in the day, she could often be seen in jeans and lace-up boots and, in more recent years, overalls and a pair of her many brightly colored sneakers. She loved frequent long drives in the country with friends, especially road trips in search of interesting places and bluebonnets for photos opts with her doggies.
She loved entertaining everyone with her karaoke skills and always dancing her little dancey dance. We can’t forget to mention her almost daily meal at Whataburger.
Nami’s memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday August 3, 2024, at the Wellborn Community Center.
