Minnie Ann Skelton

We are sad to announce the passing of Minnie Ann Skelton on October 16^th, 2023. She is survived by her husband, Royce Skelton, to whom she was married for 46 wonderful years, her brother, Johnny Dobbs of Donie, Texas, and her grandchildren, Dava Oxford, Davin Oxford, and Dylan Oxford, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her mother, Mavis Donaho, and her father, Stacy Dobbs, and her beloved mother-in-law, Ocie Skelton of Houston, Texas. “Ann”, as she was more commonly known, was born on February 7^th, 1944 in Leon Prairie, Texas, but spent most of her life between Buffalo, Houston, and Normangee, Texas. She and Royce married in Normangee, Texas in 1977 in a small and intimate ceremony, surrounded by friends and family.

Though they had no children of their own throughout their years together, you’d have never guessed that there was no blood relation between her and her grandchildren, for whom she showed so much love and pride and devotion. Those that knew her knew how fiercely she loved and that was even more obvious to those that were lucky enough to be loved by her. In addition to the people in her life that she loved, she filled her life with hobbies that brought her immense joy such as gardening, sewing, crochet, cooking, and collecting her hummingbirds, gingerbread, and teapots. She loved wildlife and flowers and her pets and spent countless hours watching the birds in her yard and tending to her plants, sharing her passions with anyone she could, even going so far as to raise animals such as a fox and a squirrel by hand. In her later years, she continued her sewing and crochet projects, making clothes and blankets for babies and children in her community. Though quiet and oftentimes reserved, she was an amazingly kind and bright person who brought so much joy to those that knew and loved her. She will be sorely missed but forever in our hearts and memories, living on for years to come in those that survive her.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 5-7 pm at Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee, Texas. Graveside will take place on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 10 am at Wealthy Cemetery.
