Mima Barrett was born on November 13, 1927 to James and Ima Hardin in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was called to a greater service with our Lord on February 13, 2022. Mima was raised in Bryan and later attended Southwestern University where she was a treasured member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After graduation, Mima worked in Houston and Bellaire in the oil and gas industry. It was in Houston that she met her future husband, Bracell Clyde Barrett (aka Pat B. Barrett), who was the brother of Mima’s hairdresser George T. Barrett. Mima and Pat were married and enjoyed many years of happiness until Pat’s passing on October 7, 2003.
Mima and Pat were the founders and owners of Formula Manufacturing in Houston, Texas. Pat invented and manufactured the sidewall coring system that is used in the oil and gas industry to extract samples of deep underground formations so they may be studied in the laboratory. Mima successfully administered their business and grew it from humble beginnings with Pat’s mills and lathes in the garage of her Bellaire house to a corporation housed in multiple buildings they purchased on Weslow Street in Houston.
Mima was an accomplished calligrapher and enjoyed her genealogy hobby. She and Pat owned the Star View Ranch in Madison County where they enjoyed nature while raising cattle, including bucking bull rodeo stock. She thoroughly enjoyed her friends in Bryan, where she returned to live in 2004. Their fun together included Rummikub games, theatre trips, lunches and dinners and the celebration of life each day. Mima was a devoted Christian who lived according to the scripture and loved everyone who was in her life.
Mima is preceded in death by her husband Pat and her parents James and Ima Echols Hardin. She is survived by her step-children Damon Barrett, Patrick Barrett-Cameron, and Brenda Barrett; her nieces and nephews Ollie Barrett Siegeler, Glenda Barrett Spate, Robert Barrett, Buddy Barrett, Carolyn Barrett Guedry, Avalon Barrett Stewart (Bobby), John Barrett, Georgann Barrett; her cousins Debra Hardin and Denise Latimer. Mima was close to her great nephews Will (Angela) Barrett and Basye Barrett. She is also survived by her dear friends Barbara Hudetts, Peter Foley, Jill Norris, Melissa Dunn, Dr. Suzanne Black, the many former employees of Formula Manufacturing including the Jim Tran family, and her comfort keepers; especially Katrina, Theresa and Kerrie.
A memorial service for Mima will be held at 2:00 pm February 19 in the main meeting room of the Watercrest Senior Living Facility in Bryan, Texas with Reverend Jim Jackson officiating. Honorary pallbearers are John Barrett, Will Barrett, Basye Barrett, Damon Barrett, Peter Foley, and Jim Tran. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station. Memorials may be made to the Madisonville Cemetery Association.
