Milton Lee Dodgen

Milton Lee Dodgen, 89, of Bryan, Texas passed away surrounded by his family on July 16, 2023 while in the care of Lampstand Nursing home. He was called to his heavenly home after a battle with cancer. Milton was born on April 14, 1934 in Houston, Tx to Roger Dale Dodgen and Jewell Evelyn Spear Dodgen. He grew up in Houston his entire life until he joined the US Navy on April 24, 1952 and then the US Navy reserves in April 1956. He served 8 years with the Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, Milton joined the Houston Fire Department where he worked for 23 years and retired. He then joined the Houston Police Department until his retirement. His life was dedicated to serving his County, City and State. He lived in Houston most of his life before moving to Bryan, TX 5 years ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Jewel Dodgen. Wife and mother of his children Mary Stewart Dodgen, daughter, Dana Cupples and son, Mitchell Dodgen.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jean Dodgen of Bryan, Tx. Two daughters, Tami Toon and Husband Charlie of Houston, Tx and Robin Schenewerk of Bryan, Tx. Grandchildren, Melissa Gibbs and husband Tim of Cypress Tx, Chase Toon and wife Cassie of College Station and Brook Wiggins and husband John of Magnolia. Misty York, LaChaixe Sellers, and Jamie Strickland from Oklahoma and numerous great grandchildren.

Milton was a happy guy that loved a party. He liked to barbecue and spend time with his family and friends. He is known by his grandchildren as “Paw Paw” & “Pappy”. He never met a stranger, because he loved to talk and meet new people. He and his rescue dog Trudy, spent a lot of time greeting neighbors and helping with advice to whoever asked for it. He enjoyed fishing and watching some Texan football. He loved his wife and partner in life, Jean. They spent great times laughing living life together. He loved his girls, and tried to help them whenever the need was there. He was giving to his family up to his last days. He was just that type of man. Alway caring and happy to make you smile. He will be greatly missed.
