Matthew Dean Sanders

February 22, 1994 — October 25, 2021

Matthew Sanders, 27, of College Station passed away October 25, 2021. Born in College Station, Texas on February 22, 1994, to parents Mary H. Rogers Sanders and Robert L. “Bobby” Sanders, Jr., Matt arrived in this world with gifts and talents that he shared with all who knew and loved this amazing young man.

He grew up in College Station where he attended classes through 12th grade. Then his internal calendar decided he was ready to get on with the world. Smart as a whip but not a fan of structured classroom instruction, Matt always had two or three projects going, and one of them would, undoubtedly, be fishing. Most recently Matt worked at Caffé Capri in downtown Bryan and made good friends there.

He was fascinated by people and sought to collect around him only individuals who were truthful, sincere, kind, and knew how to enjoy life.

Skateboarding was a passion, and he collected many skateboards. Yet, each had a specific purpose. One might be for tricks; another might be for taking curves. Whatever the challenge, he had a skateboard for that. He was brave and never feared serious injury while tempting fate with each accomplishment he achieved. He was a good role model and teacher for how to pursue a goal until you could achieve your accomplishment. He had a serious amount of stubbornness, a Rogers family trait, which helped him achieve what he put his mind to doing.

Although most people go fishing. Matt went fishing, often managing five and six lines at one time. He loved time with his family and enjoyed the world of the marina at Lake Somerville where his dad first took him to fish about the time he could walk.

Matt loved spending time with his family, especially as part of the three Musketeers—Matt, Meghan, and Madison. He was always enthusiastic about his family. In free time, he enjoyed playing competitive card or board games. His younger brother Grant looked up to him and Matt valued their times together, especially fishing.

As a major fan of the Dallas Cowboys season after season, Matt remained faithful to them, no matter their win-loss record. He loved the perspective of Dave Chappelle, Johnny Knoxville, and skateboarder Rob Dyrdek’s “Ridiculousness,” and “Fantasy Factory.”

Matt was predeceased by maternal great grandparents R. E. “Buck” Rogers, and Buck’s wives, Mary Opal Rogers, and later Henrietta Rogers; by Roger J. and Helen B. Morris; and by great aunts and uncles, Patsy Rogers Joslin, Michael P. Rogers, and Don W. Morris.

Also, Matt’s paternal great grandparents, Wanda and Carl Brown and Thomas Matthew Sanders and Belle Sanders Hall, and grandparents, Robert L. Sanders, Sr. and Helen Brown Sanders preceded him in passing.

Loving family who survive him include his parents—mother, Mary H. Rogers Sanders, father, Robert L. “Bobby” Sanders, Jr.— and brother Grant Sanders; maternal grandparents, Dr. Bobby Dean and Patricia Ann Rogers; maternal aunts and uncles Bruce W. Rogers and former wife Shawntell McKillop, their daughter, his cousin, Meghan Rogers; Brian B. and Shara H. Rogers, and sons, his cousins Parker and Pierce Rogers; aunt and uncle, Jennie E. Rogers Barton and Ben Barton, and their children, his cousins Kardi, Madison, and Catelyn; paternal uncle and aunt, Wayne and Brenda Spruill, and their children, his cousins Kevin, Carol, Carl and Beth; and extended family & friends, including longtime friend of the heart, Kelcie Button.

Matt’s family invite all family and friends to a time of Visitation, beginning at 12:30 pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021, immediately followed by a Celebration of Matt’s Life, beginning at 2pm.
