Mary Ellen Cone (née Synnott), 71, passed away on July 18, 2024, in College Station, Texas. Born on July 12, 1953, in Houston, Texas, she was a cherished member of the community and a devoted public servant.
Mary graduated from Northwest Academy before earning her degree from Texas Woman’s University. She dedicated many years of her life to serving as an Adult Probation Officer for Harris County. She was committed to her probationers and the resolution of problems that might impact their lives.
Mary was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Brenham, where she found great solace in her faith and community.
A skilled and passionate quilter, Mary created beautiful quilts that she often gifted to family and friends, each piece a testament to her meticulous care and love. Her quilts will remain cherished keepsakes for those who were fortunate enough to receive them.
After moving to Somerville, Mary enjoyed working in her yard and vegetable garden. She grew plants that would attract her favorite birds and butterflies. Each day she tirelessly maintained several bird feeders, bird baths, and remote watering sites for deer.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Michael Cone; her siblings, James Synnott, Jr., Sue Rose, and Roger Synnott; her nephews, Ryan Synnott, Bradley Synnott, James Rose and Matthew Synnott and was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. James D. and Ola Mae Synnott.
Services to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 5000 Tidwell, Houston. Her life and legacy will continue to influence those who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church (School building fund).
