Martha Faye Gibson Murphy went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 10, 2024. Visitation will be at Callaway-Jones Funeral & Cremation Center on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bryan on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
She was born on January 20, 1939, in Groesbeck, Texas to Elton and Janette Kilpatrick Gibson. Martha was a proud graduate of Baylor University earning a bachelors degree in education. She spent a lifetime teaching in various schools. She loved genealogy and researching the history of her family.
Martha was married to the love of her life, Sidney L. Murphy for many years. Martha and Sid attended Westminster Presbyterian Church where they were life-long members. They enjoyed many years together traveling, bowling and square dancing. They enjoyed spending time with their family and especially loved spending time with their grandchildren.
Martha was a member of numerous organizations that were dear to her heart. Past Regent: William Scott Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Past President: The Woman’s Club; Robert Henry Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas; John Person Chapter, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century; I.S. Ross Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy; Stephen Williams, Chapter, National Society United Daughters of 1812; Alpha Xi Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary. She was a State Committee Chair for many of these Organizations. She was also involved with Woman of Westminster, Bryan Heritage Society, Hope Pregnancy Center, Twin City Mission, and Still Creek Ranch. She was a 7th generation Texan, a direct descendant of Stephen F. Austin’s old 300.
Martha is preceded by her husband, Sidney L. Murphy and her parents, Elton & Janette Gibson. She is survived by her brother Wayne Gibson and wife, Betty, her children, Wayne Wilson and wife, Linda; Denise Mazurek and husband, Buddy; Richard Wilson and wife, Tabitha; Karen McQueen and husband, Charles; and Lisa Kemp and husband, Joe. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Callaway-Jones Funeral & Cremation Center and Westminster Presbyterian Church will be handling the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers – donations can be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
