Marlys Arlene Smith

February 7, 1958 — May 31, 2022

Marlys Arlene Smith (Harlin), 64, passed away peacefully in Bryan, Texas on May 31, 2022. Marlys was born February 7, 1958, to Schurman “Slim” and Marlys Harlin (Radcliff) in North Platte, Nebraska.

Marlys graduated from North Platte High School in 1976 and married in 1978. October 24, 1979, her first child, Shiloh Ray Nicholson was born in Grove, Oklahoma. The family found their way to Iola, Texas and her second child, Cassidy Lynn Nicholson was born May 28, 1981, in Bryan, TX. Marlys was a stay-at-home mom taking care of her children and babysitting a few other kids to help provide as her husband worked full time. She would soon find herself working at the Rocking Chair General Store on main street in Iola. She was a people person and never met a stranger. In May of 1990 she began her employment with Federal Express. Iola was home to her and the family until 1999 when she would part ways with her husband of twenty plus years. Through the years Marlys lived in College Station, TX, Vernal, UT, and in 2020 she made her way back home to Bryan, TX, where she lived with Cassidy and Brannon (fiancée) until her passing. Marlys was a diligent worker and dedicated to her job with Federal Express where she fully retired after 33 years of service.
Marlys loved many things about life and found enjoyment in whatever she was doing. Being outside in her flowerbeds, watching the wildlife, doing crafts, and spending time with her kids and grandkids were just a few of the joys in her life. She touched many lives and will be forever loved and greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents; First husband and father of her children, Monte Nicholson; Second husband Charles “Chuck” Smith; Brother, Gary Harlin, and wife Terry Harlin (Peck); and Brother-in-law, Arvin Stahl.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Shiloh and Hannah Nicholson of Cypress, TX; daughter Cassidy Nicholson and fiancée Brannon Wiggins of Bryan, TX; grandchildren Alexis Nicholson of Bryan, TX; Sawyer and Harper Nicholson of Cypress, TX; Brother and sister-in-law Rudy and Carolyn Harlin of Fort Collins, CO; sister Linda Stahl of San Antonio, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

To honor the wishes of Marlys there will not be a service. For those that desire, donations to the COPD Foundation https://www.copdfoundation.org/Take-Action/Donate/Tribute-Giving.aspx in her memory would be appreciated.
