It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Stacell, a beloved father, son, friend, and colleague. Mark left this world on June 22, 2023, at his home in Missouri City, Texas, after a courageous 14-month battle with Glioblastoma. His departure leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him.
Mark was born on April 20, 1962, in Bryan, Texas. He was a remarkable individual who lived a life filled with purpose and dedication. Mark’s academic pursuits were a testament to his inherent desire for knowledge and his passion to make a difference. He obtained an undergraduate degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University, followed by a master’s in biology from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Mark returned to school at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, where he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence.
Mark’s love for travel, the great outdoors, and fine food and wine was apparent to all who shared in his adventures. He found fulfillment in exploring new places, immersing himself in nature, and would top off a good day with a cold beverage. His enthusiasm for these passions was infectious, and he made lifelong memories with friends and loved ones along the way.
Mark’s memory will forever be treasured by his family. He is survived by his mother, Gwen Stacell, his loving wife, Tamara Stacell, his daughter, Kayley Slone, son-in-law, Ky Slone, his son, Reid Stacell, and his future daughter-in-law, Morgan Cox. The recent arrival of his grandson, Foster Slone, brought immeasurable joy to Mark’s life. Mark’s father, Alan Stacell, and his sister, Lauren Randall, preceded him in death.
The impact that Mark had on the lives of those around him cannot be overstated. His genuine thoughtfulness and unwavering friendship touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Mark’s memory will forever inspire us to embrace life’s joys, cherish our loved ones, and strive to make a positive difference in the world.
