Marion “Sam” Houston Sweatt, 66, of Burton, Texas, passed away on January 1, 2025. A Life Celebration Service will be held at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory on January 18th, 2025, with visitation starting at 1 PM followed by a memorial service at 2 PM. The funeral home is located at 3001 S College Ave, Bryan, TX 77801.

Born in Houston, Texas, on January 31, 1958, Sam was a devoted husband, father, and friend, as well as a highly esteemed professional in the oil and gas industry whose impact was felt far and wide. A proud graduate of Sam Rayburn High School, he went on to attend Texas A&M University, where he laid the foundation for a remarkable career. He dedicated 45 years to his profession, beginning on a frac crew and rising to become a respected completion consultant known for his expertise and strong work ethic. His contributions took him around the globe,earning him the admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

Sam was not just defined by his professional achievements; his heart was deeply committed to his family and the joys of ranch life. He found happiness in working the land and spending quality time with loved ones. Known for his gregarious personality, Sam had a gift for bringing people together. His legendary cooking and barbecuing skills made every gathering special, filled with laughter and memorable stories. He leaves behind a legacy that will endure and be cherished by family, friends, and colleagues.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Sweatt, and his niece, Lori Smith. He is survived by his wife Debby Sweatt, sisters Roberta Smith and husband Larry and Marcy Thompson and husband Tommy; brothers Robert Sweatt and wife Judy and Dan Sweatt and wife Vicki; sons Jordon Sweatt and wife Paige, Taylor Sweatt, Graham Sweatt and fiancé Caroline; stepsons Gregory Harris and Michael Bice and wife Stephani; along with four grandchildren, a fifth grandchild expected later this year, and four step-grandchildren. Sam’s vibrant spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
