Marion James Scambray Sr.

It is with great sadness that the family of Marion James Scambray Sr. announce his passing. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 3, 2024, after a short battle with colon cancer. He was 71 years old.

He was born on July 15, 1953 to Vincent Frank Scambray Sr. and Ruby Elizabeth Smith Scambray in Bryan, Texas. He grew up and went to school in Bryan, Texas. He worked as a mechanic for many years. He started his career with O’Reilly Auto Parts in August of 1993 as a commercial manager and parts specialist. He retired in 2020.

He married the love of his life, Mary Jo King Ely, on December 12, 1987. They have four children, Marion James Scambray Jr. (Jamie), Amanda Jean Scambray Gross, Heather Ann Ely, and Patrick Jason Ely.

He was an avid deer hunter and gun collector. He also enjoyed cross stitch and Pixel Art.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Frank Scambray Sr. and Ruby Elizabeth Smith Scambray, sister Barbara Scambray Greer, two brothers Steve Scambray and Wayne Scambray.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Scambray, sons Jamie Scambray and Patrick Ely and daughter-in-law Jessica, daughters Heather Ann Ely and Amanda Scambray Gross and husband Joshua Gross, brother Vincent Frank Scambray Jr. and his wife Kathy, sisters Frances Willis of Bryan and Charlotte Scambray of Brenham, grandchildren Christian Scambray, Samantha Scambray, Svea Ely, Finn Ely, Devyn Gross, and Rowyn Gross.

Services will be held Thursday, October 10, 2024 with visitation at 10 am and service at 11 am at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center. Burial to follow at Norwood Cemetery in Hearne, Texas.
