Born Lucy Marilyn Roth in Gardner, MA, she was the daughter of William and Lucy McCarthy Roth. She enjoyed science and academics. The first in her family to go to college, she graduated from Bates College in 1949, with a degree in Chemistry, and got her MS at Smith College in 1952. While working at Johns Hopkins University, she met John D Cochrane. They married in Gardner MA in 1955.
In 1956, the couple moved to College Station, where she raised her family, kept a long line of cats, one dog, and, for a short while, a pet raccoon. She had a life-long interest in science, history, natural history, and ecology. She enjoyed world travel, bird-watching, and taking long walks.
She will be missed by her sons, daughter-in-laws, and daughter: John & Cheryl Cochrane, Bill & Peggy Cochrane, Bob & Jeanie Cochrane, Tom Cochrane, Betty Cochrane Setterlund; and her grandchildren: Nels, Adrienne, Amy, April Setterlund, Billy, Brent, Brittany, Blayne Cochrane, Eric Cochrane, Alex Szilgyi, and their spouses and 19 great grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of Life Saturday, Nov. 26, 12pm at 1824 Shadowwood, College Station.
